A Legacy of Service
Every day, millions of people in the United States depend on American States Water Company (AWR) for the water and electricity that enhance their quality of life. Since its founding in 1929 with the acquisition of basic water systems, the company has grown significantly and continues to pioneer the use of modern technology with its services. Yesterday’s visions of expansion have turned into today’s realit. AWR, through ASUS and its sister subsidiary, Golden State Water Company (GSWC), has become one of the largest publicly-traded water and wastewater utilities in the country.
GSWC provides water service to approximately 260,000 customers in 10 counties throughout the state of California. AWR also distributes electricity to approximately 24,000 customers in the Big Bear recreational area in San Bernardino County. Through ASUS, the company operates and maintains water and wastewater systems on military bases across the country under its 50-year privatization contracts with the U.S. Government.
AWR is committed to maximizing shareholder value through a combination of capital appreciation and cash dividends. That mission is accomplished in a number of ways: providing exemplary water, wastewater, and electric services to its customers; delivering superior financial performance for its shareholders through minimizing life-cycle costs; developing its workforce; conserving resources; and leveraging diversity among its employees and vendors.
