About FRUS at Fort Riley
About Fort Riley – Established in 1853 and located on the Kansas River, Fort Riley is home to the First Infantry Division – the famed “Big Red One.” The installation spans more than 100,000 acres between Junction City and Manhattan, Kansas. It is a premier training site, with 150 square miles of dedicated training area. Fort Riley is also 100% self-sustaining for potable drinking water and all wastewater services.
About FRUS – In late 2017, FRUS began serving as Fort Riley’s sole provider for water distribution and wastewater collection – responsible for the complete operation, maintenance, and renewal of water and wastewater resources for this historic military base. Due to the training and deployment activities, the population fluctuates and requires varying strategies to ensure water services remain compliant with regulations. The weather conditions experienced include significantly varying temperatures and sudden onset severe weather conditions throughout the year. Despite these challenges, and in fact because of, the Installation moves forward with training and primary missions, requiring reliable and safe water services just as agile every day.
