Serving Those Who Serve® Award

SERVING THOSE WHO SERVE® AWARD

We are the stewards of a remarkable mission: “Providing life’s most precious resource to our Nation’s most vital people.” Providing clean water to our military men and women is indeed an honorable mission – it’s a high privilege to serve those who serve. As we celebrate our participation in serving our military, we also wish to take the opportunity to recognize and celebrate those among us who have personally gone above and beyond in their service to others.

The ASUS Serving Those Who Serve® Award was created to recognize the value ASUS employees make in Serving Those Who Serve – the men and women of the United States armed forces and the communities in which they live. This award recognizes ASUS employees who commonly go the extra mile in demonstrating kindness, sacrifice, and commitment to the people of our communities. Since 2017, the Serving Those Who Serve® Award has been given to ASUS employees who make a positive impact through the following attributes or acts of service:

  • Community Involvement/Volunteerism
  • Consistency and Quality
  • Customer Satisfaction/Contribution
  • Problem Solving and Innovation
  • Initiative and Accountability

Past recipients of this prestigious award are shown below and highlight our workforce’s continued commitment to our customers and our communities.

2023

Richard Henry

Richard is a hard-working, reliable team member at ONUS that supported other bases across ASUS in 2022 when needs arose. When a situation arose at FRUS, he left within three hours of being asked and drove over 20 hours to support that team for five months. When a fourth quarter need arose, he once again left home and headed out of state to support the needs of ASUS. It is this type of dedication and selfless service that separates ASUS from all other UP providers.

2022

Jacob Kelly

Jacob’s service includes many notable acts, such as participating in each of the TUS volunteer events at Joint Base Andrews, volunteering at the food pantry at the Ambassador Baptist Church each month, and participating in local race events where proceeds are donated to charitable causes including local high school programs and the Fallen Soldier program.

2021

ASUS Subsidiaries

The 2021 Serving Those Who Serve® Award was given to all ASUS subsidiaries for their exceptional customer service during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each subsidiary remained focused on meeting customer needs while ensuring a safe work environment. While we faced an unprecedented challenge with this global pandemic, our employees displayed steadfast commitment to providing our customers with water and wastewater services at all our locations. The installations served by ASUS did not experience a single interruption of operational, maintenance or construction services throughout the pandemic.

2020

Joan Hart

Joan is quick to help her colleagues on the ASUS-Joint Base Andrews team as well as her fellow Administrative Support Analysts. She provided the same level of care and support for the team at ASUS-Eglin AFB, where she started her career with ASUS. Joan’s compassion and giving heart was on full display during this COVID-19 pandemic when she was given a large supply of surgical masks. Instead of keeping them for herself and family, she decided to donate them to a nearby hospital as they had a greater need. The shortage of masks then inspired her to begin sewing face masks for her community and handing them out through an effort she calls “Neighbor to Neighbor.” Joan’s selfless acts clearly reflect the spirit of serving others and is the reason she is deserving of this award.

2019

Luis Mulero

Luis has done an outstanding job in serving the ASUS-Eglin Air Force Base installation and community. Luis has played a key role in Company-wide initiatives helping implement two of the biggest improvements to the ASUS Health & Safety Program since its inception. He has been the tip of the spear as ASUS has rolled out the new Safety Inspection Program and the Annual Safety Rodeo Training Program. He also volunteered to implement the automation process for the Safety Reports app at ECUS, which resulted in the program being implemented company-wide.

2018

Teddy Jernigan

Teddy has done an outstanding job in serving the Fort Bragg installation and community. He has been recognized for superior service by our military customer on multiple occasions through our customer survey program.  He was also specifically called out by the military housing leadership for his efforts on a major construction project in the Normandy area. A written letter of appreciation was received which stated that Teddy, and his fellow inspector working the water and wastewater line replacements, were “true professionals who went above and beyond expectations.” Teddy also gives back to his community as a volunteer EMT (EMT Certified), and a volunteer firefighter.

2017

Josie Mathew

Josie did an outstanding job this past year in her service to the military community at Fort Bliss. Some of her efforts include, organizing FBWS participation in eight (8) successful Community Outreach events that directly benefited active duty personnel and their families, veterans, families of fallen soldiers, military personnel overseas, and the Fort Bliss community at large. These activities included the AAFES Car Show, BOSS Bash, 11th Annual Veterans’ Conference, Educator Resource Fair, Walk 4 Recycle, USAF Care Packages, Wreaths Across America, & the SOS Luncheon.
